Washing Soda

Washing soda is different from baking soda because they are two entirely different chemical compounds. Sometimes called “soda ash,” washing soda is a highly alkaline compound that is very effective in removing stubborn stains from laundry.

When used in your laundry, the high alkalinity helps the soda to act as a solvent to remove many stains and does not stain itself as bleach often does. In addition, it binds to the minerals found in hard water, allowing the laundry detergent to foam, as it is supposed to, allowing clothing to come out clean.

Washing soda, often marketed under the brand name of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, is readily available at your local grocery store and can be found in the laundry aisle.
